What's New in Version 1.3

Your Word, Always Visible

Your Word, Everywhere You Look

Version 1.3 brings your Starword to places you look dozens of times a day. With new Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, your word is always just a glance away. Ask Siri for your word or reflection prompt with Shortcuts integration. And now, Starwords speaks Spanish too.

📱 Home Screen Widgets

Keep your word visible right on your Home Screen without opening the app. Choose from three sizes to fit your perfect layout:

Small Widget

A compact, elegant display showing just your word. Perfect for filling that small empty space on your Home Screen while keeping your word in constant view.

Medium Widget

Your word plus a glimpse of your current reflection prompt. This size strikes the perfect balance between visibility and information.

Large Widget

The full experience: your word, complete reflection prompt, and visual space to breathe. When you want your Starword to have room to resonate.

To add a widget: Long-press your Home Screen, tap the + button in the top corner, search for Starwords, choose your widget size, and add to Home Screen. Position it anywhere you'll see it throughout the day.

🔒 Lock Screen Widgets

Your iPhone's Lock Screen is the first thing you see when you pick up your phone, and the last thing you see when you set it down. Now your Starword can meet you there, dozens of times a day.

Quick Glance at Your Word

The Lock Screen widget displays your word in a small, elegant format that fits perfectly in the available spaces on iOS 16+ Lock Screens. Every time you check the time, see a notification, or simply glance at your phone, your word is right there.

To add a Lock Screen widget: Long-press your Lock Screen, tap Customize, then tap the area below the time to add widgets. Find Starwords in the list and add it to your Lock Screen. Your word will greet you every time you wake your phone.

Why This Matters

Research shows we check our phones 50-100 times per day. That's 50-100 opportunities to reconnect with your word, to be reminded of your intention, to recalibrate your focus. The Lock Screen widget transforms those automatic phone checks into moments of mindfulness.

🎤 Siri Shortcuts Integration

Now you can ask Siri about your Starword, hands-free. Whether you're driving, cooking, or just want to hear your word spoken aloud, Siri is ready to help.

What You Can Ask

Setting Up Shortcuts

Starwords includes pre-built Siri Shortcuts for common actions. To set them up:

Or use the default phrases listed above - they work right out of the box! Siri will understand common ways of asking about your word.

Use Cases

Siri integration shines in moments when you can't look at your phone:

🌍 Spanish Language Support

Starwords now speaks Spanish (es-MX). The entire app interface, reflection prompts, and notifications are available in Spanish, making the practice of keeping a Starword accessible to Spanish-speaking communities.

Fully Localized Experience

When you use Starwords in Spanish, you get:

How to Switch Languages

Starwords automatically uses your iPhone's language setting. To use Starwords in Spanish:

Per-app language (iOS 15+): You can also set Starwords to Spanish while keeping your iPhone in English. In iPhone Settings, scroll to Starwords, tap "Language," and select "Español (México)."

Why Spanish?

The practice of choosing or receiving a word for the year exists across many cultures and languages. Spanish-speaking faith communities, in particular, have rich traditions around palabras anuales (annual words) and intenciones (intentions). Version 1.3 honors that tradition by making Starwords fully accessible in Spanish.

More languages are planned for future versions. If you'd like to see Starwords in your language, please let us know.
